Assistant is the L’Arche term that has always been used for personnel who are companions to our Core members. They are typically trained and certified as Direct Service Professionals (DSPs).

When Wavecrest personnel are with Core Members, we call it “sharing time.” Complete focus is with the Core Member(s), including if they would just like to be alone or watch TV in the other room. But most of the time, Core Members enjoy sharing time, having meaningful conversations, cooking together, having meals together, watching movies together, laughing together, living life together. Any of our work or volunteer opportunities will involve “sharing time” with our Core Members, which they cherish.
